A England Rose Bower

If you've been following my little blog for a while, you probably know I'm not a big fan of holo polishes. I think it's such a shame that all you see is the overpowering holo and the often gorgeous base color is nowhere to be found. Or the polish is gorgeous in the sun, with it's holo in full effect, but really boring and dull in normal lighting.

Well, I think I have to adjust that statement just a little. I really only don't like the strong linear holo polish, but I absolutely love a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) scattered holo! It gives the polish a nice boost in the sunlight, while still being absolutely gorgeous in low lighting.

A England Rose Bower is just that, a gorgeous deep red polish, packed with a scattering of subtle holo goodness.

The formula is... well...  it's just flippin' fantastic! This is a true one coater, even for me! I tend to do such thin coats, that most polishes that people rave about being a one coater, need 2 on my nails (Sally Hansen Pacific Blue for instance). Not this one, this was opaque in just 1, the second coat that I added (I've never been able to do just 1 coat, no matter how opaque it is. I know, I have issues...) didn't do anything for opacity and it didn't change the color either. It was easy to paint and dried fast and smooth.

Isn't it a pretty red color? This is what it looks like in low lighting, just a gorgeous, vampy red polish. But the real beauty of this polish comes out when the sun hits it. It transforms a relatively simple polish into an absolute stunner!

Just look at that holo sparkle! I can't get enough, it's just so pretty, without taking anything away from the base color. This is my kind of holo!

What's your favorite kind of holo? Do you like your holo's subtle like me, or are you the boom in your face kind of holo lover?

China Glaze OMG

I've heard a lot of talk about the China Glaze OMG collection lately, somebody I know was able to pick up the entire collection and was over the moon about it. I'm not the biggest fan of this collection, but I understand the hype, if you're a holo fan. It did remind me that I actually have one of these coveted polishes in my stash, but it has never made it onto my nails as a full manicure. I did use it a lot for nail art and as an accent on the odd occasion, but that's it.

China Glaze OMG is the name polish in the 2008 OMG! collection, which has to be the most wanted collection that China Glaze has ever put out. It's impossible to get your hands on one of these polishes, but you can still find the odd one here and there, for ridiculous prices. This particular one is a pale silver linear holo.

The formula is, well, extremely thin. I don't know if this is just my bottle, but it's like painting water on my nails. I did 3 coats to get it opaque and to be honest, I could have done with a 4th. It did dry reasonably fast and shiny, but I wouldn't wear this without a topcoat, because it does chip on me very fast.

If you like silver linear holo's and you can get your hands on this one, get it! It's a unique shade, because it's so pale. For me however, not my thing. I don't particularly like linear holo's and I don't really like silver.

I did get some compliments while wearing this, so apparently it does suit my skin tone, but it's just not for me. Why don't I sell it or give it away you ask? Because I'm a total polish hoarder and this IS from the OMG! collection, that's why! I know, I have issues...

Are you lucky enough to own a polish from this collection or are you still trying to hunt one down?

Orly Angel Eyes

When I was trying to decide which polish to show for yesterdays theme, I almost picked this polish, but with it being the Holiday season, I had to go with Party Hearty.

Orly Angel Eyes is a lightly blue tinted base packed with blue small glitter and larger holo hex glitter that came out with the Naughty and Nice Holiday collection in 2012.

The formula is perfect, it gives enough coverage in one coat but as the base is not that opaque, I would recommend layering it over an opaque color. For this mani, I used China Glaze Splish Splash. This polish has to be one of the hardest to capture in a picture! My poor camera freaked out because this sparkles so much and all my swatches turned out a little blurry.

This dries shiny on its own, but I always add a fast drying topcoat, to make it extra shiny and smooth out the finish, although this wasn't too bad. I love this, it always makes me smile. It looks like a blue disco ball on my nails, perfect for the holidays!

What's your favorite glitter polish?
