Loaded lacquer Brain Breath

Happy Halloween everybody!!!
This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I had a few issues with my pictures, so I'm a day late... but better late than never, right?!

If you've been following my blog for a while, you know I love pretty/ugly colors, especially the murky green ones like Zombie Zest, Walker Bait and It's Alive. So when I saw a murky green polish in the Zombie Hayride collection, I knew instantly it would be another winner.

Loaded Lacquer Brain Breath is a murky, slimy green jelly base with a very strong copper, almost pink shimmer.

The formula is a touch on the thicker side, but still very easy to apply. Because of the jelly base, you do need 3 coats to get it fully opaque, but it dries so fast, 3 coats isn't a problem at all! Because it's a little thicker, you could get away with 2 thick coats, but I prefer 3 thin coats.

I love this color, but I think the majority will say this is a disgusting color to put on your nails. But what did you expect from a polish that's called Brain Breath... it has to be a little disgusting! I can just picture a zombie grunting to another zombie before a hot date: "I just ate lunch, do I have Brain Breath?"

The shimmer in this polish is what makes this a winner for me. It gives it just a little extra and it makes it pop on my nails. I've had so many comments on my nails today, positive and not so positive ones, but this baby gets noticed! If you like your polish a little different than most, I'd definitely recommend checking this one out!

Loaded Lacquer is available here, but the site is currently closed for a holiday and restock. The shop will open again in November and I can't wait, as the Holiday collection will be revealed. I already know I need every single one of them (obsessed much? Lol!)

Dollish Polish Vampires Coven

A couple of days ago I was browsing Instagram looking for some polish inspiration as I do a lot, when I saw a gorgeous swatch of an older Halloween polish. I took a screenshot and send it to my friend, telling her I needed to find this gorgeous polish and buy it! She replied promptly: "You already own it!" I checked my stash, she was right!

Dollish Polish Vampires Coven is a gorgeous black jelly base with a ton of red and purple glitter. There are hex and square glitter, in micro, small and medium sizes.

The formula is really nice, no fishing needed and it applies smoothly. You could get this opaque on its own in about 3 coats, but I like to layer it over a dark polish, so I don't overpower my nails with glitter. In my pictures, I'm wearing it over OPI Lincoln Park after dark and I think it's a great combination. This is just 1 coat of Vampires Coven, if you want a bit more glitter, you can always go for 2.

I love these kind of black jelly based polishes with red, vampy glitter. I own quite a lot (so much so, that I apparently forget that I own them...) and I keep buying more. They are just so stunning and a nice change from plain dark polish.

This one is gorgeous, I love the fact that it doesn't just have the red glitter, the pop of purple makes this different from all my other black jelly bases with red glitter polishes. This was first released as part of the This is Halloween 2012 collection and I don't think it's still available, but Dolly does have the nice tendency to rerelease discontinued polishes that people really loved (like she did with Walker Bait), so keep an eye out and you might just get lucky!

China Glaze It's Alive

Halloween is only a couple of weeks away and I'm busting out all my Halloween themed polishes! I resisted buying this particular polish for a long long time, because I already own Zombie Zest and I LOVE that one, so do I really need 2 olive green glitters in my stash? Well, as soon as I put this on my nails I knew the answer: YES! Yes, I do!

China Glaze It's Alive is an olive green jelly base, packed with green micro and small glitter. It was first released as part of the Haunting Halloween collection 2011, so you won't find this in store anymore, but you can still find it at the regular e-tailers.

The formula is really good for such a dense glitter. It's a little on the thicker side, but easy to apply and completely opaque on its own in just 2 coats. It dries really fast, although a bit matter than I was expecting. I would suggest a good coat of top coat to make it shiny and smooth it out. If you want it completely smooth, you might have to do 2 coats, because this is a little bit of a top coat eater.

It's absolutely gorgeous on the nail though. I love olive green polish and I love glitter, so why I resisted this beauty for so long, I will never understand. I've been wearing this for a couple of days and have gotten several compliments. This is definitely an eye catcher!

Not only is this stunning, it also hasn't chipped on my yet, I don't even have any tipwear yet! No chipping isn't that exceptional on my nails, but I usually do have 1 or 2 nails that show tipwear on day 2 and this is still going strong!

If you love olive green, green in general of glitter polishes, you need to get this! It's a perfect fall polish and I now you're going to love it just as much as I do!

Dollish Polish Walker Bait

A little thing about me you might not know is, like a lot of people, I'm a huge horror fan. I especially like zombie movies and shows, so it's probably not a big surprise I'm a massive fan of The Walking Dead!

If you're just as big of a fan as I am, you know that tonight is the start of the new season and with that in mind I could only go for 1 polish today!

Dollish Polish Walker Bait is a gorgeous olive green duochrome that flashes from green to orange, packed with a very strong scatered holo. This polish was first released last year, but was rereleased with this years Halloween collection as a Limited Edition and therefor each bottle is numbered. 

The formula is really nice, a little sheer on the first coat, but completely opaque on the second coat. Easy to work with, not streaky and it dries really fast. I absolutely love it, I just wish I could get the square caps of the handle so it's easier to work with...

I originally bought this polish solely because of it's name (don't judge, we've all been there!), but I actually really like it! The color is just so deep and gorgeous and the orange flash gives it a little extra. The scattered holo is very noticable, even in dim lighting and that makes this a truly fantastic polish!

Unfortunately, Walker Bait is sold out and I don't think it's coming back. I'm extremely happy I was able to get my hands on a bottle and I can't wait to see what the new season of The Walking Dead has in store!

Loaded Lacquer Glitter Graveyard

As soon as I heard Heather from Loaded Lacquer was coming out with a Halloween collection, I knew I had to have it. Even before seeing any pictures, there was no doubt in my mind I would love every single polish and she hasn't disappointed with her Zombie Hayride collection!

The collection consists of 4 polishes and today I have the first one to show you.

Loaded Lacquer Glitter Graveyard is a black jelly base, packed with black holographic multi-sized hex, silver holographic multi-sized hex, holographic red squares, rainbow micro shimmer and a dusting of reflective pigment. The pigment won't show up unless you are in the dark and with a bright light on your nails. I have to say, it was loads of fun during my Zumba class with all the flashing lights!

The formula is absolutely perfect! I layered just 1 coat over 1 coat of black and there was no need to fish, place or dab, the glitter went on smoothly. You can definitely get this opaque on its own in 2 - 3 coats, but I like it better over black as you don't get as much glitter on your nails and all the individual glitter stands out more. It dries really fast and shiny, but I would recommend a good coat of top coat to smooth the glitter out.

Isn't that gorgeous? I love it so much, I can't stop staring at my nails. I actually crawled underneath my deks with my flashlight app to try to capture the reflective pigment in a picture, but no such luck. If you want to see a great picture of the pigment, check out the bottle shot on the Loaded Lacquer site.

I'm a sucker for Halloween and Holiday polish in general, but this year I've been quite good at not overbuying. This might have something to do with the fact that I really don't like the mainstream brands Halloween collections, but I'm still very proud of myself for saving my money for gorgeous collections like this one!

Girly Bits Gravedigger

I love everything Halloween and I'm really bummed we don't celebrate the holiday here. This is one of my favorite times of the year, because of all the new Halloween collections coming out!
Every year I tell myself I'm only going to pick up a select few and every year I go totally bonkers and buy way to many. This year I'm trying to stick to my promiss and to help me do that but still fill my Halloween nail polish needs, I'm going to wear all my untried Halloween polishes from previous years!

The first polish I wore this year is Girly Bits Gravedigger. This is a black crelly base, packed with orange, pink, purple and green small and larger hexes and squares. It was released as part of the 2013 Fall collection, but I've still seen it available.

The formula is really nice. It's easy to paint and I love the Girly Bits brush. It's nice and flat, wide, but not too wide and it fans out nicely, dispersing the glitter evenly over the nail. It dried really fast and shiny, but with all glitter, I'd recommend using a good top coat to smooth it out.

Oh, this is just so pretty! I was afraid the black base would cover the gorgeous color of the glitter, but no such thing! It's dark, twisty and fun, perfect for Halloween! I wore this for almost a week, because I just couldn't bring myself to take it off and I got so many compliments on it.

The glitter really does stand out, it's not overpowered by the black base at all, I can't believe I've never worn this before, it's instantly made it to my favorites list. Perfect in every way!

China Glaze Near Dark

A while back, a friend of mine was ordering some polishes from eBay and asked me if I'd ever heard of this polish. Nope... totally skipped my attention, but as soon as I looked at the swatches I knew I had to have it!

China Glaze Near Dark is a very dark, murky green cream. It looks almost black on the nail, but you can definitely still tell it's a green polish.

The formula was perfect. Opaque in just 2 thin coats, easy to apply and it dried fast enough. I didn't use any topcoat for these pictures, it's this shiny all on its own!

 

Everybody knows I like my dark polishes and this is no exception! Such a gorgeous color, perfect for fall and winter. It was part of the Haunting collection for Halloween 2011 and I think it's a shame this hasn't gotten more attention. I do understand, because the glitters in that collection (It's Alive and Haunting) are gorgeous and take center stage, but still, this deserves a bit of the attention too!

China Glaze Immortal

We were promissed snow this week, but unfortunately, all I've seen is a lot of rain and wind. It's just so grey and gloomy outside, I really felt like having a polish on my nails to match, so I gazed at all my polishes and picked one that looked like storm in a bottle, but in the best possible way.

China Glaze Immortal is a midtoned grey polish with a ton of shimmer. It looks like silver shimmer at first glance, but when you look closer, you see it's not silver at all, but a gorgeous blue and purple.

The formula is nice, a bit on the sheer side, but I was able to get it opaque in 2 coats. It's easy to paint on the nail and it dries fast enough. This polish was part of the Halloween 2012 Wicked collection and has sadly been discontinued, but I only picked it up recently, so it's still available on eBay.

I absolutely love this polish! I love a nice grey polish, but the shimmer makes it simply stunning and a totally unique polish in my stash. Normally you only see shimmer like this when you're in direct sunlight, but with this polish it's definitely noticable all the time. I would absolutely recommend picking this up if you have the chance.

Dollish Polish 1,2, Freddy's coming for you!

This time of year I seem to love my glitters, especially my red and green glitters. I love the holiday season and those are the perfect holiday colors! I am always on the hunt for China Glaze's Party Hardy, but so far, no luck. I know there a several dupes for it, but I can't get my hands on any of those. So when I saw this polish, I was all over it!

Dollish Polish 1,2, Freddy's coming for you is an clear base packed with red, green, magenta and black glitter. Because I layered it over black, the red, green and magenta glitter is the most noticable on the nail and I absolutely love it!

This is just 1 coat over 1 coat of black.The formula was perfect! No need to dab the glitter, it came out the botlle and off the brush with ease with great opacity. It dried really fast, but a little on the dull side, so a shiny top coat is a must. This also smooths out the polish, as it is rather chunky because of all the glitter.

Of course the inspiration for this polish, which was part of the Halloween Fright Nights Collection 2013 is none other than mr Freddy Kreuger himself, the well know character from A nightmare on Elm Street.

I just can't get over this collection, I picked up 5 of the 8 polishes and they are all great, so be prepared to see a few more! I think Dollish Polish came out with the best Halloween collection ever this year! But because Halloween is just 1 day, I couldn't wear them all, even though I did a whole week of Halloween mani's, but I think this is great for the entire holidays season.

I have quite a few more on my wishlist, I'm sure that "You'll shoot yur eye out, kid", "Purple Nurples", "It's bigger on the inside" and "I wanna do bad things with you" will eventually be added to my stash, along with a few more... I mean, how can I, as a big Big Bang Theory fan, resist a polish called "I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested"???

Halloweek: Bloody Nails

This is the last day of Halloweek allready... I'm feeling a little sad it's over...
Luckily I have a lot of gorgeous glitters, that nobody will link to Halloween but me, so I can wear them all year round and only I will know it's actually a Halloween polish. Kinda like having a little secret all by myself.

On this last day, I have another nail art. I have been seeing a lot of this design on Instagram, Youtube and other blogs, so this is by no means my own idea, but I just loved it so much and it screamed Halloween to me, so I had to try my own version of it.

I used a few things to create this Blood dripping mani. OPI My boyfriend scales walls, my favorite and, at the moment, only white polish. China Glaze Phat Santa, one of my favorite reds, but the reason I choose this one is that it is pretty much opaque in 1 coat. To create the drops on my nails, I used a dotting tool.

I started off with 2 coats of Boyfriend and let that dry. I then placed a few drops of red on my nail with the dotting tool and dragged the drops down towards the tip of my nails. With the brush of the red polish, I filled in the gaps and voila! Blood dripping down my nails :D

I think this is a really fun mani, next time I will add some shading and maybe a few loose drops here and there, but for a first try, I think it turned out pretty good!

Halloweek: Ghost and Googly eyes

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!!

It's finally here, today is actually Halloween! Not that I will notice it other than on my nails, because Halloween is not celebrated here. But I love it and I did do a fun nail art today. I have to say, this might be my favorite art I've ever done and it is really simple.

I have been eyeing the little ghost that Marianne did on her blog, NailpolishSleuth, for quite some time and what better time to try these guys out than Halloween :D

They are easy and fun and you only need a black and white polish and a dotting tool. Even I can do them and that is saying a lot, lol! I did end up having all sorts of trouble, I bumped my hand on the table after applying my white ghost, had bubbles and was just being clumpsy...  but I did manage to get it on my nails and I love it! Look at my little friend:

Isn't that fun and "scary" at the same time? I am already thinking of ways I can get away with this mani when Halloween is over, lol.

I used my favorite black and white polish for this mani, China Glaze Liquid Leather and OPI My boyfriend scales walls. I think I'll try a skittles googly eyes mani later, I think that might be fun too.

Halloweek: Dollish Polish Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake

I am a huge fan of horror movies, I can watch them anytime and I watch all types of horror. When I saw Dollish Polish was releasing a Halloween collection, inspired by horror movies, I was all over that! The entire collection has 8 polishes, but I only got 5 of them, because the other 3 didn't appeal to me. Today I have one of those polishes for you.

Dollish Polish Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake is inspired by Friday the 13th and even though the movie is not one of my favorites, I love this polish! Dollish' description of this polish is spot on:

Inspired by the movie, Friday The 13th, This Navy Blue jelly jammed-packed with hexagon & dots glitters in multi shades of Blue, Silver, and Turquoise giving the illusion of "lake-like" crystal water appearance on your nails, minus the crazy guy in the hockey mask.

I have to admit, this polish is a weird one for me. I normally really don't like sheer polishes, they annoy me and don't look good on my nails. But this one... This is a true jelly base and as a result, it is really sheer. I did 3 coats, and it's still not completely opaque. But, I actually love that about this polish! It looks like a jelly sandwich and fits the name perfectly! It's that perfect lake water color, blue with a hint of green, almost teal, packed with different sized glitter and large round holo glitter. Stunning!

The formula was really nice and it dried fast, but I did have to fish the large round glitter out of the bottle, after 3 coats of polish I had a total of 0 on my nails without fishing... jup... none came out on their own. They do make this polish special, so I think the fishing is definitely a must, but with a result like this, I really didn't mind.

I love this collection and will be showing the other ones I got very soon!

Halloweek: China Glaze Bat my Eyes

Day 2 of Halloweek and I have one of the new Monster's Ball polishes for you. I wasn't sure if I wanted this particular polish, but I always love the China Glaze Halloween polishes and I just couldn't imagine not buying any of them this year. I looked at a lot of swatches, but I was afraid it was too much gold for me. When Holly showed it on Instagram, I knew I had to get it!

China Glaze Bat my Eyes is a black jelly base packed with gold glitter and the occasional orange/bronze bar glitter in there. I can't really see the bar glitter on the nail, but I do see orange/bronze flashes and that is what brings this polish alive.

I normally really don't like bar glitter, but because you don't see them on the nail, I'm ok with them in this polish. The formula however is a different story... Because it's so packed with glitter, the polish is really thick and goopy. I wasn't able to paint thin layers on my nails, but had to deal with thicker layers. I think I'm going to add just a few drops of thinner next time, to see if that makes it better.

Don't get me wrong, I was still able to get it on my nails, but it wasn't a breeze. Luckily it dries really fast, even with a thicker coat of polish and it was opaque in 2 coats. You could get away with 1 thick coat, but I just always add the second and it did make it better.

Because of the glitter, it's not a smooth feeling polish, but I found that 1 coat of HK Girl top coat was more than enough. It didn't make it feel completely smooth, but I don't need it to be. Overall, I really like this polish, even with the bad formula. The bronze really makes it pop!
