My most worn polishes: main stream

When people hear I have a little bit of a nail polish addiction and I own more than 10 bottles of polish, the number one question they ask, is whether I actually wear them all or if there are some polishes that I wear more than others. Truth is, I have a lot of polish I've only worn once. Somehow I always end up wearing the same polishes.
Some I gravitate towards because they have a perfect formula and others I just absolutely love the color of.

Today I'm showing you my most worn polishes from main stream brands. I do have quite a few indie polishes I gravitate towards, but to not make this post about half a mile long, I decided to split them in two. I'll show you my indie most worn polishes next week.

So, let's get started!

I love Zoya and luckily, I now have access to this brand, because Color4Nails started stocking them. But the ones I wear the most, happen to both be Pixie Dusts. Carter on the left and Tomoko on the right. Easy, perfect formula's, no base or topcoat needed and they dry really fast.

Next up is Essie and I have to admit, none of these polishes have a particularly great formula, but I absolutely love the colors! From left to right: Cute as a button, Butler Please and Skirting the Issue. 

I have a lot of OPI's I wear a lot, but these are the ones that I have worn the most and keep wearing over and over. All have really nice formula's, are easy to paint and the colors are just stunning. From left to right you see Suzi ski's in the Pyrenees Suede finish, Lincoln Park after Dark, An affair in Red Square and Smitten with Mittens.

This first one might surprise you, as I haven't even talked about it on my blog. Even though it's a pink glitter, I wore this a LOT! My bottle is almost gone and the polish has gotten so thick, it's almost impossible to paint. But I still wear it, mostly as an accent though, because it's just too much hassle to do all 10 nails. OPI Excuse moi, Dim Sum Plum, Russian Navy, My boyfriends scales walls and My favorite ornament.

China Glaze is probably one of my favorite main stream brands. I love the brush and the colors, but their formula differs quite a bit from one polish to the next. This is Ruby Pumps, Phat Santa ( I keep wanting to call this Bad Santa...), Vermillion and Lubu Heels. yup, all reds, but hey, I just can't live without red nails!

And since China Glaze does make polish in a different color, here are the other ones I rock a lot. It just occured to me, that I totally forgot to include Grass is lime greener... I love that polish and it didn't come of my nails last spring and summer. So just picture it next to Zombie Zest, Splish Splash, Riveting and 108 Degrees.

And lastly, we have some miscellaneous brands. I love all these brands, but I don't own as much of them. But that doesn't mean I don't wear them, these are some of my favorite polishes! We have Orly Melt your popsicle and Angel Eyes, Misa Party in the Masquerade, Color Club Holiday Splendor and Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (original formula).

Orly Melt your Popsicle

Yesterday was the first day of the World Cup Soccer and it kicked off with host Brasil v Croatia. which was won by Brasil (with a little help of the ref, I think). Today our boys play their first match against Spain, a repeat of the final from 4 years ago. Sadly we lost that game, so fingers crossed for a different outcome tonight! I'm not the biggest soccer fan, but I decided to show my support on my nails, by painting them orange, our national color.

And not just any old orange, but Orly Melt your Popsicle, a bright in your face highlighter neon orange polish, perfect for this occasion!

The formula is a little on the thin side... actually... it's a lot on the thin side. I always use a white base to avoid having to do 4 - 5 coats to get it opaque. Normally I don't use a white base under my neons and even though this is pigmented enough to not need it, it's so thin, I just can't deal with the amount of coats I have to do without the base.

Luckily, it does dry very fast and, like most neons, a little on the matte side. Not completely matte, but not as shiny as I'd like, so a glossy top coat is a must. I absolutely love this color. I'm a big fan of orange polish, it just suits my skin tone really well and this is one of my favorites. It's just so bright and happy, I can't help but smile when I wear this polish.

Every time I wear this polish, I get the same comment at least a couple of times: "Wow, now that's orange!" But that's exactly what I like about Popsicle, you just can't hide the brightness.

Glitter placement with Orly Embrace

I'm not a pink nails kind of girl, not the sweet and cute pink nails anyway. I do rock a neon pink quite often in spring and summer, but I can't pull of a sweet, cute soft baby pink. It just doesn't suit my personality or my skintone. But every once in a while, I find myself craving a cute pink nail... So I decided to give in to my craving, but do a cute, girly pink polish DarknTwisty style!

I started of with China Glaze Man Hunt  on all fingers, except my ringfingers. On my ringfingers, I did 2 coats of Orly Embrace on its own. I then added a little accent to my blue nails in the form of a glitter placement. It didn't turn out as neat and tidy as I'd hoped, but I like it and will definitely give this placement thing another go.

Embrace is part of the Pretty in Pink Breast Cancer Awereness 2012 collection and the bottle comes with a pink ribbon charm. It's a chunky pink glitter in a clear base and it's meant to be used as a topper. I decided to use it on its own and it was actually opaque in 3 coats, so not too bad. The glitter did want to curl a little, so a good layerof top coat to smooth it out is a must!

Not to bad for my first time, but I could definitely do with a bit of practice.

Orly Angel Eyes

When I was trying to decide which polish to show for yesterdays theme, I almost picked this polish, but with it being the Holiday season, I had to go with Party Hearty.

Orly Angel Eyes is a lightly blue tinted base packed with blue small glitter and larger holo hex glitter that came out with the Naughty and Nice Holiday collection in 2012.

The formula is perfect, it gives enough coverage in one coat but as the base is not that opaque, I would recommend layering it over an opaque color. For this mani, I used China Glaze Splish Splash. This polish has to be one of the hardest to capture in a picture! My poor camera freaked out because this sparkles so much and all my swatches turned out a little blurry.

This dries shiny on its own, but I always add a fast drying topcoat, to make it extra shiny and smooth out the finish, although this wasn't too bad. I love this, it always makes me smile. It looks like a blue disco ball on my nails, perfect for the holidays!
